Equifax Launches Online Credit Education Program
New Initiative Helps Consumers Protect Their Identities and Manage Their Financial Well-Being
Atlanta , April 19, 2005 - Equifax Inc. (NYSE: EFX) has launched Take Control of Your Credit, its new online resource, featuring a wealth of information to help consumers protect themselves against identity theft and to help consumers better understand and manage the critical role that credit plays in their daily lives.
Take Control of Your Credit will help consumers keep their credit under control and better understand their credit reports. It will help them prepare for major purchases and protect themselves against identity theft. Available in English and Spanish, the new program is a key component of Equifax's ongoing credit literacy initiative to educate consumers about credit and help them make informed financial decisions.
Take Control of Your Credit is available to all consumers at MyCreditEducation.com or at Equifax.com. Equifax is also making this important educational tool available to businesses and other organizations via a CD version. The CD has also been included in the 2004 Equifax Annual Report.
"Educating consumers on the importance of credit management is part of Equifax's ongoing commitment to enlighten, enable and empower consumers to be effective guardians of their financial well-being," said Thomas F. Chapman, chairman and CEO of Equifax. "The availability of credit and the American credit reporting system that makes it available -- are cornerstones of our economy, and Equifax recognizes that the more consumers understand this system, the more empowered they are to be successful managers of their credit."
Take Control of Your Credit leverages Equifax's long-time leadership in providing personal credit management tools, and offers tutorials on topics such as guarding against identity theft, managing your credit and preparing for a major purchase. Recognizing that identity theft is a fast-growing crime, this program provides consumers valuable "how to" information on checking their credit reports and safeguarding their personal information.
"Equifax wants to help consumers become champions of personal credit management," said Chapman. "This kind of empowerment gives consumers the understanding and negotiating power they need to make smarter purchasing decisions and obtain items they want and need faster and often at a reduced cost. The more we equip consumers to better manage their financial health, the more we promote consumer confidence and economic growth."
For 106 years, Equifax has been recognized as a trusted steward of personal credit information to American consumers.
