Cowboys Touchdowns Add up to $16,500 for Arlington Childcare Center
January 19, 2005, SAN FRANCISCO. Dallas Cowboys fans may be disappointed at the NFL season's outcome, but kids and parents at an Arlington child care center are not, thanks to Providian Financial's (NYSE: PVN) Touchdowns for Tots community giving program.
Kids and parents at Arlington's Mt. Olive Day Care Center greeted Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, who serves as the Cowboys Touchdowns for Tots player/spokesman, with cheers and applause today when he visited the center to pass out commemorative footballs and present the center with a $16,500 check representing the Cowboys' 33 touchdowns.
“We are very excited to receive this generous donation. We appreciate Providian and the Dallas Cowboys for choosing Mount Olive Child Care Center for the Touchdowns for Tots program,” said Center Director Lavern Adams. “We plan to use the money to purchase audio visual learning tools, computers for our Pre-K Room, and multi-capacity strollers for the infants, and to improve our security system at the center. This money will go a long way in improving the educational and safety needs for our students.”
Now in its fourth year, Providian's Touchdowns for Tots has contributed thousands of dollars to deserving childcare centers in California and in Texas. The Company has similar programs with the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders radio networks. Despite challenging seasons, together, the three teams racked up 97 touchdowns, earning $49,000 to support quality, affordable childcare.
“Providian is proud to support childcare in the areas where our employees live and work. We're happy the Cowboys scored as many touchdowns as they did,” said Alan Elias, senior vice president of Community Affairs for Providian.
Providian teamed with player/spokesman Witten and the Cowboys Radio Network to promote Touchdowns for Tots. Throughout the season, play-by-play announcers acknowledged Providian's $500 contributions each time the team reached the end zone. Radio spots featuring Witten and parents whose children attend the Mt. Olive Day Care Center aired during the game broadcasts.
