USAA contributes $215,000 toward child safety
In honor of National Child Passenger Safety Week, The USAA Foundation, A Charitable Trust, contributed $215,000 to hospitals in seven cities to assist in providing child safety seats to low-income families.
"The USAA Foundation is committed to making a difference in the communities we serve," said Barbara Gentry, president of The USAA Foundation. "We are pleased that The USAA Foundation's contributions to these hospitals will help provide child safety seats to families in need."
Safety matters
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motor vehicle crashes are the leading killer of children ages 4 to 14 each year in the United States. More than 40 percent of children under the age of 8 who die or suffer incapacitating injuries in fatal car crashes are completely unrestrained.
Common installation mistakes
Many times, children who are restrained are secured improperly. The NHTSA outlines the three most common mistakes in installing a child safety seat:
• Not attaching the seat tightly to the car
• Not fastening the harness clips tightly enough
• Not using the chest slip or using it incorrectly |
