Sallie Mae named one of the ‘100 Best Corporate Citizens’ by Business Ethics magazine for second consecutive year
RESTON, Va., April 13, 2005 - Sallie Mae, the No. 1 paying-for-college company, today announced that it has once again been chosen as one of the top 100 corporate citizens by Business Ethics magazine, a publication that promotes social responsibility in business. This is the second consecutive year that Sallie Mae has been named to the list. The annual listing celebrates public companies that best serve their constituencies, including stockholders, employees, customers, the community and the environment.
The 100 Best Corporate Citizens survey is based on a database maintained by KLD Research & Analytics, a social research firm. The survey considers all companies listed on the Russell 1,000 Index – the 1,000 largest publicly traded companies in the United States. Companies receive rankings in eight different categories: total return to stockholders, community, governance, diversity, employees, environment, human rights and product. Each company then receives an overall rating based on their scores in these areas. The latest rankings appear in the magazine’s spring 2005 issue, as well as online at www.business-ethics.com.
